How do ADIs do their Job?

ADIs should teach the key driving skills as depicted in the NSDRT and laid out in “the Official Guides to Learning to Drive.

The syllabus is taught over many lessons dependent upon the rate at which the learner driver masters skills and techniques. ADIs must teach their pupils to drive safely and if the key skills have been learnt a driving test pass should be achievable.

Here is a short video from our Instructor Trainer Emma Bird outlining the structure of a lesson.

Driving lessons are usually of 1 hour, 1 1/2 hours or 2 hours duration. Each lesson should follow the same pattern

  • Recap at start (10 – 15% of lesson time)
  • Teaching Session (75 – 80%)
  • Recap at End (10%)

So lets look at each one individually
